Edgehill Project

The Edgehill Project was set up by a group of keen archaeologists, historians and ecologists in 1995 in order to better understand settlement and land-use in an area of south Warwickshire close to the Edgehill escarpment. Fieldwalking was carried out over a large area within the parishes of Tysoe and Pillerton Priors, in addition geophysics and airphoto analysis were undertaken.
The project team worked closely with the Warwickshire Sites and Monuments Record officer so that information could be mapped and archived. Several Romano-British settlement sites were located during the project and a number of potential prehistoric sites were also mapped.
Recent work associated with the project has included the excavation of a badly damaged mosaic associated with a Roman villa within the parish of Pillerton Priors.
